Former US President Barack Obama is preparing to participate in an election rally in Georgia, alongside Democratic Senator Jon Ossoff and Democratic gubernatorial candidate Keisha Lance Bottoms, less than two weeks before the midterm elections.

On Wednesday, the official account of the Democratic Party on the X platform published an announcement about organizing an election rally bringing together Obama, Ossoff, and Bottoms in Atlanta next week.

Over the weekend, Obama is scheduled to participate in election events to support Democratic candidates in other states, including a gathering in Michigan to support Senate candidate Abdul Rahman Al-Sayed, and an event in Ohio with the participation of Senate candidate Sherrod Brown and gubernatorial candidate Amy Acton.

On Sunday, Obama wrote on social media: “Georgia! I will be in Atlanta on October 28th to participate in a rally in support of Keisha Lance Bottoms, Jon Ossoff, and the Democrats working to improve your lives.”

Ossoff faces competition from Republican Representative Mike Collins in the race to retain his Senate seat, while Bottoms is competing against Republican candidate Rick Jackson for the position of governor of the state.

The Cook Political Report, an independent institution specializing in analyzing US elections, classifies the Georgia governor’s race among the close contests that are difficult to decide in advance, while the Senate race is classified among the races in which the Democrats are likely to win, according to its estimates.

Georgia is considered one of the swing states of electoral importance, as it voted for President Donald Trump in the 2024 elections, after voting for former President Joe Biden in the 2020 elections.

Last week, Georgia set a record high on the first day of early voting for the midterm elections, with more than 180,000 votes cast, according to the state Secretary of State's office, an increase of about 50,000 votes compared to the first day of early voting four years ago.
