Where is Russia in the Arab world?

Amidst the state of geopolitical conflict and the raging crises in the Middle East in general, and the Arab Gulf region in particular, before and during the Iran crisis, and with the outbreak of brutality by the Houthi terrorist militia and after it, and the widening overlap between regional and international affairs, it seems as if there is a question mark rising on the horizon about a major country that has always been close and closely linked to the course of events in the region and has long been linked to diplomatic relations. With the Arab world, by which we mean the Russian Federation, the heir to the Soviet Union. Where does Russia stand today regarding the course of events and developments in the hot and inflammatory scene? Is it a balanced force that can be relied upon in the face of American unilateralism, a force that effectively and effectively supports Arab rights, and without relying on resonant slogans and buzzwords alone? Or is the truth that Moscow is exploiting the crises and conflicts that are happening in the region, wars and confrontations, to serve its interests and even its clash with NATO in general, especially as it is experiencing one of its major contemporary crises, represented by the Ukraine war, from which it does not know how to get rid of it easily? The question presented is in fact complex and not simple, and the answer to it must take into account that international politics is not white. There is no black, but rather different shades of grey, which makes the idea of who is with us and who is against us, who supports the camp of war and who supports the camp of peace, very difficult. It is no secret that Russia has clear relations with Iran, and the latter played an important role in supplying Moscow with drones to a large extent over the years. The last in the war with Ukraine. In addition, Moscow views Tehran as a cornerstone in a cognitive chess box that removes from the world the idea of sole American hegemony in one of the most important energy regions of the world, not to mention the genius of the geographical location between the largest continents of the Earth. However, despite this, there are historical relations that bring Russia together with the Gulf states, and this year was an occasion to celebrate the 100th anniversary. For diplomatic relations between the Russians and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, which was established in 1926. From here, Moscow indeed seems willing to strengthen its relations with the Arab Gulf states, in addition to strengthening its partnerships with North African countries, as is the case with Egypt, Libya, and Algeria in particular. Moscow appears to be in a moment of discord and conflict within its single spirit. In the face of the attacks on the Gulf states from Iran and the Houthis, it seems as if it must decide its options, meaning whether it remains in the neutral zone, in an attempt to flirt with contradictions, or must it defend the right to peace, security and tranquility, in addition to respecting the sovereignty of states, all of which Iran violates every morning and evening, while its agent in Yemen, sending its missiles and marches on the country of the holy places that touch the hearts of two billion Muslims around the world? Moscow appears to be facing a diplomatic dilemma. On the one hand, it is betting on Iran as a vital weight and a strategic partner in the face of Western sanctions and the pressures that have been increasing since the outbreak of the Ukrainian war. Without forgetting the Russians’ desire to expand military and economic cooperation withThe Iranians. But this, despite its importance, does not mean that the Kremlin’s diplomacy can ignore its relations with Riyadh in particular, especially since Russian memory in particular, and international memory in general, remembers the advanced role that Saudi diplomacy played in trying to end the Ukrainian crisis, and Riyadh’s hosting of discussions and negotiations on February 17 and 18, 2025 to end The war in Ukraine and de-escalation. This also applies to the relationship with the rest of the capitals of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, where there is a clear partnership in the field of energy markets, investment, and international balances. And entering into the depth of the crisis that the Houthis are creating and their globally condemned departure from international legitimacy, and the violation of the Westphalian agreements, which place respect for nations and their sovereignty in the first place, the Russian positions seem cause for contemplation and provoking thought. Moscow does not look at what he is doing. Not only do the Houthis pose a threat to a high-level and very important diplomatic ally like the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, but they are also aware that what the Houthis are doing is a serious threat to the international shipping movement in the Red Sea and at the Bab al-Mandab Strait, which means that there are horrors that could happen to the movement of international trade, and it does not provide for energy markets and the interests of the major powers, with Russia at the forefront. Here the issue of the equality of opposites in one spirit seems as if it moved from the United States. The United Nations to the Russian Federation, because while Moscow adopts a utopian discourse calling for the activation of political solutions, on the other hand, it is keen to maintain channels of communication with all parties to the Yemeni conflict, includingThe Houthis. A few days ago, the American Al-Monitor website in Washington mentioned how Moscow is weaving a network of diplomatic relations with reverse lines, as it officially maintains its relations with the internationally recognized Yemeni government, while seeking to expand its contacts with the Houthis to ensure that it has a back door in the event of upcoming negotiations, as every war ends with a seat at the negotiating tables. For Muscovites, this is something It is justified, and even has political relevance, especially since a hotline with the Houthis undoubtedly gives the Russian decision-maker enough space to influence the security of the Red Sea and exert indirect pressure on the United States, not to mention an advanced position at any future negotiating table. However, at the same time, this position entails a major paradox towards the Gulf allies, especially in light of the unjustified silence towards the Iranian and Houthi attacks in the beginning. Next, it is impossible to understand with reason or justice that Russian diplomacy remains silent while it sees the Houthis threatening airports and civilian objects, threatening air and sea navigation, and disturbing international peace, not just regional ones. Talking about Russia and its diplomacy takes us, without any doubt, on the path to the capabilities of the Russian military, and whether it can move from quiescence to positive dynamism. In support of loyal allies? Here appear the weak points in the Russian structural body, as it cannot in any way compete with the United States of America in providing a military protection umbrella, or providing forms of support in the face of the operations of war agents. At the same timeLikewise, anyone who looks at the level of American-Russian relations in recent weeks is fully aware that there is some kind of supernatural deal through which the amounts are being made. Washington and Moscow seem to be exchanging the most important pragmatic interests. The Russians are supplying the Americans with diesel oil, which means that fuel prices are falling in the American interior, while the master of the White House believes that the President of Ukraine, Zelensky, is no longer fit for his position and position. And that it is time for the Ukrainians to find another president to replace him, which is in Putin’s interest. This is international politics, but in any case the saying of the great Italian poet Dante Alighieri remains present: “The darkest places in hell are reserved for those who stand neutral in times of moral crises.”
