Iranian Media: Araqchi Meets Qatari Mediators in New York

- The official Iranian news agency (IRNA) revealed on Monday that Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi will meet later today with Qatari mediators in New York, on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly meetings. The agency quoted a source close to the Iranian delegation, stating that Araqchi will hold discussions with the Qatari mediators, which are expected to address the latest developments regarding the exchange of messages between Iran and the United States.

Iraqchi said on Sunday evening that he and Iranian President Masoud Bezhakian did not go to the General Assembly meetings in New York to promote war, but to make peace. Iraqchi stated in a post on his official account on the "X" platform: "I told the (Meet The Press) program that President Bezhakian and I did not come to New York to promote war."

"We came to build peace," he expressed. The Iranian Foreign Minister added: "However, Iran remains steadfast in the face of any aggression - even if it leads to a devastating total war, and at the same time, we are ready for genuine diplomacy."

Trump had rejected, on Saturday, the latest Iranian proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, describing it as "unacceptable." After a week during which senior Iranian officials visited New York to participate in United Nations General Assembly meetings and meet with American officials, Trump's statements indicated that no tangible diplomatic progress had been made.

Trump said: "They want to make a deal that would open the strait immediately because they are incurring heavy losses. They want to make a deal, and I think that's a good thing."
