- The Iranian Revolutionary Guard announced that a third oil tanker collided with a sea mine in the Strait of Hormuz, on Sunday, and caught fire, and Iranian media published a video clip of what they said was the tanker after the accident. The Public Relations Office of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Navy said late Sunday evening: “A Shuttle-type oil tanker carrying 750,000 barrels of crude oil attempted to cross an unauthorized corridor on Sunday afternoon, ignoring warnings and warnings from the Revolutionary Guard Navy, and it collided with a sea mine, exploded, and burst into flames,” according to the semi-official Iranian Tasnim News Agency.
The Ufuq News network published a video of what appears to be an oil tanker flying the Nicaraguan flag that was hit in the Gulf of Oman, causing it to catch fire. The Iranian Radio and Television Corporation re-published the video clip, stating that the tanker “did not take the warnings of the Iranian armed forces seriously on Sunday, and attempted to cross through the Strait of Hormuz at the instigation of the United States.”
The Revolutionary Guard announced that “an illegal giant oil tanker carrying crude oil, which was trying to leave through the high-risk and unauthorized corridor in the Strait of Hormuz, exploded severely as a result of it colliding with a sea mine.” For his part, Secretary of the Iranian Supreme National Security Council, Mohsen Rezaei, said on Monday, “US President Donald Trump claims every day that the Strait of Hormuz is open, but I answer: You are practicing smuggling, but the Strait is under Iran’s control, and we are managing it,” according to what was reported by the semi-official Iranian Mehr News Agency.
In turn, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ismail Baghaei said on Monday that security will not return to the Strait of Hormuz as long as America continues the war.
