Ramallah - Ofoq News - The Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine renewed its rejection of any postponement of the Palestinian Legislative Council elections, under any justification, considering that postponement is a leap over the comprehensive national dialogue and anticipation of its results, and deepens the crisis of the Palestinian political system instead of addressing it. Warning that postponement, based on previous experiences, will practically turn into canceling the elections and depriving the Palestinian people of their democratic right to choose their representatives and renew the legitimacy of national institutions, especially if the decision is taken far from national consensus and comprehensive dialogue.
The Democratic Front said, in a statement: President Mahmoud Abbas’s Decree No. (12) of 2021, regarding the general elections, clearly stipulated that they be postponed until the conditions for holding them in all Palestinian territories are available. However, the postponement did not lead to setting a new date for the elections, but rather ended in the cancellation of the elections, and the Palestinian people are still waiting to exercise their right to election, accountability, and democratic change to this day.
The Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine concluded by calling for a comprehensive and serious national dialogue that leads to national understandings and direct solutions to address the current political crisis and unify the national situation on the basis of partnership and collective responsibility. Stressing that any new postponement of the elections must not turn into an entry point to disrupt the national dialogue, or a pretext for deporting the important national entitlements represented by comprehensive Palestinian participation in the national and leadership bodies, and the immediate formation of a national consensus government, extending its mandate to all the Palestinian territories occupied in 1967, including East Jerusalem, the Gaza Strip, and the West Bank.
