The General Secretariat of the Syrian Presidency directed public entities to rationalize spending and reduce unnecessary expenses, and to rearrange the priorities of investment projects according to their necessity and feasibility, while ensuring that essential tasks of public entities are not affected. Salaries, wages, and expenses necessary for the continuity of health, education, water, energy, public safety services, and necessary operational and preventive maintenance work should be exempt from the reduction measures.

The General Secretariat of the Presidency issued a statement to ministries and public entities today, Monday, based on a proposal from the Ministry of Finance, which included a series of measures to control and rationalize public spending, in line with the requirements to enhance financial discipline and the efficient use of public resources under the current circumstances.

The General Secretariat stated that these measures aim "to maintain the balance of the state budget, enhance financial discipline, improve spending efficiency, and direct available allocations towards priorities and essential services, ensuring the continuity of public entities' work and not affecting their ability to perform their core tasks," according to the Syrian Arab News Agency "SANA."

The General Secretariat emphasized the necessity of directing spending towards basic needs and reviewing areas of expenditure that can be rationalized, achieving savings in public funds without affecting the continuity of public entities' work and their ability to perform their core tasks.

The approach includes re-evaluating the approved investment projects based on their necessity, completion rates, existing commitments, and their financial, economic, and service impacts, while prioritizing projects related to the continuity of essential services, public safety, and the protection of assets and vital infrastructure, as well as projects with economic and financial feasibility.
