The General Director of the Syrian Grain Establishment, Hassan Muhammad Al-Othman, discussed with the Turkish company "Obial" the establishment of new metal silos for grain storage in several Syrian provinces, in the presence of the Deputy Minister of Economy and Industry for Internal Trade Affairs, Maher Khalil Al-Hassan.
The Syrian Grain Establishment stated in a statement that the meeting addressed the proposal to create 15 metal silos in the provinces of Aleppo, Idlib, Al-Hasakah, Raqqa, Hama, and Deir ez-Zor, with a total storage capacity of 250,000 tons, to be operational during the 2027 season to receive the wheat crop.
The two sides also discussed the technical and executive aspects of the project, which would contribute to expanding the storage infrastructure for grains, distributing storage capacities near production areas, and improving the efficiency of wheat reception and storage operations, according to the Syrian News Agency "SANA."
The Turkish company "Obial" is one of the leading companies in designing and manufacturing steel silo systems and grain storage technologies and has a presence in global markets.
The Assistant Director General of the Syrian Grain Establishment, Ahmad Qadoun, announced last August that the total quantities received from the wheat crop for the current season in various provinces amounted to 2.7 million tons, indicating that exceeding the quantities received, which meet Syria's annual need of 2.55 million tons, reflects Syria's achievement of self-sufficiency in wheat.
