Ramallah - Ofoq News - Vice President Hussein Al-Sheikh received, on Sunday, the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Germany, His Excellency Dr. Geza Andreas von Geyer, and his accompanying delegation, in the presence of His Excellency the President’s Advisor for Diplomatic Affairs, Magdi Al-Khalidi, and the Vice President’s Chief of Staff, Aya Al-Muhaisen.
The German delegation included Mr. Kurt Georg Stückel-Stielfried, Director General of the Middle East and Africa Department at the German Foreign Ministry, Ms. Anke Schlemm, Head of the German Representation in Ramallah, and Mr. Per Otte, Head of the Political Department at the German Representation in Ramallah.
The Sheikh expressed his appreciation for the German positions in support of the Palestinian people, and the efforts made by Germany to support security and stability in the region and achieve the two-state solution, stressing pride in the partnership with European countries in supporting the process of internal reform and strengthening the institutions of the Palestinian state.
Al-Sheikh reviewed the ongoing Israeli measures in the Palestinian territories, including daily settler terrorism, settlement expansion, barriers, and the detention and confiscation of Palestinian funds, and the repercussions of these policies on the economic and living conditions, in addition to the challenges faced by the health and education sectors, and the catastrophic humanitarian conditions in the Gaza Strip.
Regarding the elections, Al-Sheikh explained that the decision to postpone came within the framework of collective conviction, pointing out that the Palestinian factions and forces welcomed this approach, in light of the existing circumstances and challenges.
For his part, the German Minister affirmed his country's continued support for the Palestinian people, and support for reform efforts and enhancing security and stability, stressing the importance of holding elections and supporting the two-state solution, expressing Germany's concern about Israeli measures and settlement projects, and stressing the continuation of providing support to the Palestinian people.
