The Saudi Food and Drug Authority, in partnership with the National Institute for Health Research, has launched five initiatives in the field of clinical studies, which included the guideline for the clinical trials agreement, the guideline for establishing and developing trial units, the profile for hospitals and research centers, the regulatory accreditation pathway for studies, in addition to the guide for appointing research drugs "Raed".
The two parties aim through these initiatives to enhance the infrastructure for clinical studies, create an attractive and stimulating regulatory environment for research, accelerate the implementation of clinical trials, as well as develop the regulatory and legislative frameworks that enable innovation, and speed up the development of modern drugs and treatments according to the highest global standards.
For his part, the CEO of the Saudi Food and Drug Authority, Professor Dr. Hisham Al-Jad'i, said during the launch ceremony of the initiatives that the partnership between the authority and the institute, along with other partners in the health system and beyond, has contributed to a noticeable increase in the number of clinical studies in the Kingdom.
He emphasized that the initiatives launched represent a fundamental pillar in the growth journey of this vital field and enhance its impact on the development of the national health system, pointing to the importance of integrating efforts to achieve strategic targets in the field of research and innovation, which contributes to the prosperity of the pharmaceutical industries and accelerates the delivery of therapeutic innovations to patients and beneficiaries.
In this regard, the CEO of the institute, Dr. Fares Al-Anzi, praised the rapid growth of the research and health innovation system in the Kingdom, especially in the field of clinical trials, emphasizing that the effective partnership with the Saudi Food and Drug Authority and relevant entities has contributed to enhancing the health research environment and enabling the research sector and national competencies to actively participate in this growing movement.
In the same context, he pointed out that these efforts support the development of the clinical trials system and solidify the Kingdom's position in this field.
These initiatives are the result of cooperation between the Saudi Food and Drug Authority and the National Institute for Health Research, contributing to achieving shared strategic objectives, enhancing the growth of the health research and innovation sector, and supporting the Kingdom's direction towards building a knowledge-based economy, in line with the objectives of the Health Sector Transformation Program, one of the programs of Saudi Vision 2030.
