The UAE Attorney General reveals: The co-pilot planned to target Ben Gurion Airport

Abu Dhabi - Ofoq News - The UAE Attorney General revealed the details of a plan that he said an Omani co-pilot working for Flydubai intended to implement, by taking control of a passenger plane on a flight from Dubai to Tel Aviv, and using it in a suicide attack targeting the passenger terminal at Ben Gurion Airport.

The Public Prosecutor explained that investigations showed that the accused took advantage of his participation in two previous trips to Tel Aviv to explore the path, noting that indicators of his extremism began, according to investigations, in Australia in 2017.

According to the announced details, the accused surprised the pilot of the plane and assaulted him using an emergency axe, in an attempt to control the plane. The pilot of the return plane, with the help of a cabin crew member, was able to control him, after his movements near the cockpit door raised suspicions.

The Public Prosecutor indicated that the accused stated that he acted alone, while investigations are still continuing to examine the evidence and verify the possibility of the presence of partners or other connections to the case.
