"Sale of American Weapons to China".. Trump Clarifies the Truth Behind This Offer to Xi

- President Donald Trump announced on Monday that he did not discuss the issue of selling American weapons to China during his recent meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping, which contrasts with a statement made by the U.S. ambassador to China, David Perdue, a day earlier. Perdue had stated to Fox News that Trump "says we sell weapons to other parties around the world," adding that he "actually asked President Xi at one point if he would like to buy some of them."

When asked about Perdue's comments on Monday, Trump appeared surprised and said: "To China? I never heard that, I will have to ask him about it, maybe they want to buy them because we make better equipment than they have, so it might be a good idea, but we didn't discuss that."

He added, commenting on Perdue's statements: "Maybe he was talking about Taiwan, I think he was talking about Taiwan." Following Perdue's remarks, the U.S. State Department also denied that the United States is considering selling weapons to China, with officials telling reporters that "U.S. law prohibits the sale of weapons to China, and there is no offer or plan to sell weapons to China," and an American official added: "The U.S. government has no plans to sell weapons to China."
