US President Donald Trump confirmed that he does not want to take steps that would push Russia to withdraw from negotiations to end the war in Ukraine, pointing to progress in peace efforts, while he directed sharp criticism at Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, accusing him of not wanting to end the war.
Trump said, in a post on his “Truth Social” platform, that his decision regarding Russia is based on his desire to maintain the negotiating path, adding that he does not want to take any step that would remove Moscow from the negotiating table.
He explained that significant progress is being made in the negotiations, including the ongoing talks regarding the hostages. He added that signing a document whose nature he did not specify at the present time might push Russia away from the negotiations, stressing that he could sign it later, at any time he chooses.
In another aspect of his statements, Trump said that Russia provides Iran only a limited amount of assistance, compared to what it can provide.
He added that Moscow "does not do much, if anything at all, to help the Islamic Republic of Iran," stressing that he wants to maintain this situation.
He indicated that he would continue to work to prevent an increase in Russian support for Tehran, warning against taking decisions that might lead to changing the current position.
Trump accused the Ukrainian president of targeting diesel refineries inside Russia, despite his knowledge that these attacks are causing great damage to global diesel markets, including the American market.
He said that American farmers, ranchers, and companies are suffering greatly from the repercussions of high prices, while Russia, according to him, continues to send millions of barrels of diesel to global markets at low prices.
Trump went on to accuse Zelensky of not caring about these repercussions, saying that he did not want to end the war, and perhaps he did not want to from the beginning.
He also criticized the amount of financial aid that the Ukrainian president received from Europe and from the administration of former US President Joe Biden.
He considered that Zelensky could have reached a better agreement two years ago, compared to what he can get now.
Trump described the situation in Ukraine as extremely difficult, noting that it had lost large areas of its territory and the damage to its human and military capabilities as a result of the war.
The US President concluded his post by emphasizing his desire to end the conflict, saying: “I want this war to end.”
