Trump Does Not Rule Out Striking Iran Again Before Midterm Elections

U.S. President Donald Trump said on Sunday that he believes the war with Iran will be resolved in favor of the United States "very soon," while acknowledging that launching additional military strikes before the midterm elections is "possible."

Trump, speaking on the sidelines of the Presidents Cup golf tournament, said, "I think what will happen is that we will win this war very soon, and once we achieve victory, oil prices will drop significantly back to the levels they were at before the war."

He added, "More importantly, Iran will not have a nuclear weapon," noting that nuclear deterrence is "a core element of the whole matter," according to U.S. network Fox News.

In response to additional questions about the "Economic Outcast" and whether Washington is winning through military or economic means, Trump affirmed that the United States is succeeding on both fronts.

He said, "I believe we are succeeding in both; we will win in both ways. We have already achieved victory on the military front."

"But that doesn't mean we have stopped doing that."

"We are certainly achieving a crushing victory. If you look at their economy, you will find that it has completely collapsed."

He said about Iran: "They have no economy."

"The value of their currency - as it is said - has become worthless. They have inflation; their inflation rate is now approaching 300%. I heard it reached 318% by this morning. 300% means their currency has collapsed, their economy has collapsed, and their military capabilities have collapsed. They are in a predicament."

When asked specifically whether the option of military strikes might be back on the table before the midterm elections, Trump did not rule out that possibility.

He said: "I don't want to say that. I don't want to say that. I mean, it's possible, but I simply don't want to state that."
