Click - Ofoq News - Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan confirmed that the Mecca Joint Defense Agreement is based on a purely defensive basis and does not carry any offensive nature, stressing that Turkey will not send military forces to the territory of any other country with the aim of carrying out offensive operations.
Fidan said, in statements he made on Thursday, that the agreement stipulates a unified position from the member states in the event that one of them is subjected to an attack, so that the rest of the parties stand by the country under attack.
The Turkish Foreign Minister added that the Mecca Agreement is a defense agreement and not an attack agreement, in confirmation of the nature of the alliance and the tasks that could arise from it if one of the member states is exposed to a military threat.
Türkiye: We will not send forces to launch offensive operations
Fidan stressed that Ankara does not intend to send its military forces to the territories of other countries with the aim of launching offensive operations, stressing that Turkey’s participation within the framework of the Mecca Agreement stems from the principle of joint defense and protecting member states from attacks.
The Turkish minister's statements come at a time when the military committees emerging from the agreement are working to discuss mechanisms to support the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in confronting the attacks launched by the Houthis.
