Extension of the Nomination Period for the Palestinian Legislative Elections to 18 Days

Beer - Afaq News - The Central Elections Commission announced that it received today, Sunday, the presidential decree issued by Mahmoud Abbas, which includes an amendment to the general elections law and extends the nomination period for the 2026 legislative elections from 12 days to 18 days. Thus, the legal nomination period will be from September 26 to October 13.

The Commission clarified that, in light of the new amendment, it will work to realign the schedule of legal deadlines for the electoral process in accordance with the provisions of the amended law, ensuring the completion of all stages and procedures resulting from the extension of the nomination period.

It confirmed that the amendment of the legal deadlines will not affect the date of the general voting scheduled for Saturday, November 28, and that it is proceeding with the elections as per the date specified in the presidential decree calling for elections.

The Commission indicated that it will announce the revised timeline and the new dates related to the nomination phase and the subsequent stages as soon as the necessary legal and technical arrangements are completed.
