The French newspaper Le Parisien said on Friday that the coffin of a Tunisian man who died in Paris was mistakenly shipped on a flight to Spain instead of to his homeland in Tunisia.
The newspaper reported that the body of the 75-year-old man, who lived in the Ile de France area, was transported by air from Orly Airport in Paris to the city of Malaga in Spain via the Voling company, instead of being sent to Tunisia on board Tunisian Airlines, where he was scheduled to be buried there in his hometown.
The newspaper quoted the deceased man's son as saying that his father's body was scheduled to arrive in the city of Monastir, southeast of the capital, on October 9, but the flight was delayed.
The son said that he was later surprised that the coffin was transported by mistake on a flight to Malaga before returning again to Orly Airport on October 13.
The newspaper reported that the family had to delay the funeral ceremony due to the delay in the arrival of the coffin.
Voling apologized and acknowledged to Le Parisien newspaper “the pain and suffering this matter has caused the family.”
The company confirmed that it is "working closely with the airport's ground service provider teams to uncover the circumstances of this problem."
