Hamas Conducts a Runoff Election for the Head of Its Political Bureau in Gaza

Gaza - Afaq News - Hamas is scheduled to hold a rerun of the election for the head of its political bureau in the Gaza Strip this week, after the competition could not be resolved during the first round.

According to sources, the competition in the first round was limited to members of the political bureau Nizar Awadallah and Ali Al-Amoudi, but it ended without a resolution, as several members of the electoral body cast blank votes.

The sources indicated that the positions of some members of the Shura Council within the movement have changed in recent times, noting that the head of Hamas's political bureau, Khalil Al-Hayya, and the head of the movement abroad, Khaled Meshaal, have entered the competition indirectly.

According to the sources, Meshaal supports the nomination of Nizar Awadallah, while Awadallah also enjoys the support of leader Zahir Jabareen, whereas Ali Al-Amoudi is supported by Khalil Al-Hayya.
