“A man of peace.” What did Sisi say about Trump and his role in containing the escalation with Iran?

On Tuesday, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi called on the United States and Iran to show the greatest possible flexibility at the current stage, and to allow room for understanding and dialogue to reach a political consensus that would end the ongoing conflict between them, warning that the alternative would have “catastrophic effects and consequences” on the region and the world. Al-Sisi said, during a press conference after receiving the President of the Republic of Slovenia, Natasa Peretz Musar, in Cairo, that Egypt appeals to all parties concerned with the current crisis between Iran and the United States to make way for dialogue and reach a political consensus that achieves the main demands of all parties and addresses their concerns, according to a statement issued by the Egyptian presidency.

The Egyptian President added: “I am emphasizing this trend today, before it is too late, because the alternative will have catastrophic effects and consequences on the region and the world, which is suffering from successive crises, one after another over the course of 6 years.” He added that Egypt calls on the United States and Iran "to show the greatest possible flexibility at this stage, in order to find areas of common understanding that allow the existing conflict to be resolved."

Al-Sisi expressed his “full confidence” in US President Donald Trump, describing him as a “man of peace,” and said that he “succeeded in defusing many difficult crises, and therefore I am certain that he will do his utmost, and will give the mediators all possible forms of support and assistance, so that they can reach the best settlement available, to spare the region further suffering, and to give its people hope for a better life.” Al-Sisi stressed that Egypt will continue to make its utmost efforts, in cooperation with regional and international partners, to reduce the escalation and reach a peaceful settlement of the crisis, stressing the importance of avoiding the grave humanitarian and economic repercussions that may result from the resumption of military operations on the peoples of the region and the world.
