Despite Trump's Statement.. Iranian Media: No Plans to Hold Negotiations with America in New York

- The official Iranian news agency (IRNA) reported on Sunday, citing a source close to the Iranian delegation in New York attending the United Nations General Assembly meetings, that there are no plans to negotiate with the United States on the delegation's agenda. This came after a statement from U.S. President Donald Trump, who said in an earlier interview with Axios on Sunday that he expects negotiations with Iran to continue this week.

IRNA quoted the source as saying: "The American side was clearly and transparently informed of the Islamic Republic of Iran's observations and positions last Tuesday through the Qatari mediator, and Iran is awaiting a response from the American side." He continued: "Based on that, there is no plan for a new round of negotiations with the American side on the agenda of the Iranian delegation, and the Foreign Minister will return to the country on Tuesday after completing the visit's program."

Trump stated in an interview with Axios: "I expect more talks with Iran (this week). They want to reach an agreement, but it is not the agreement I want."

It is the agreement that we might have agreed to a year ago; they overestimated their position." Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi met last week with U.S. Special Envoy Steve Biegun on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly; a meeting that Trump described on Tuesday as "very good."
