Russia refrains from confirming the "energy truce"... and offers one day to Ukraine's elections

The Kremlin announced on Monday that it would only offer Ukraine a one-day truce so that it could hold presidential elections, rejecting Kiev's call for a two-month ceasefire for the election campaign.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said, "If they really wanted to hold elections in Kiev, the Russian president, the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, would be ready to issue an order not to launch strikes on Ukraine on election day, specifically on election day."

This comes after US President Donald Trump announced an “energy truce” between Russia and Ukraine at the end of the week without providing any details.

On Monday, Russia declined to confirm the validity of any such agreement, while Zelensky confirmed that his country would respond unless Moscow agreed to an “energy truce,” explaining that Russia continues to target energy facilities in Ukraine, despite the US President’s announcement.

During his speech at the Warsaw Security Forum in Poland, Zelensky said that Ukraine learned through media reports that Trump had reached an agreement with Russia regarding a truce in the energy sector, which includes a mutual cessation of attacks targeting energy facilities.

Zelensky added that he is ready to adhere to this agreement if Moscow also adheres to it, and said, "We support that, but I did not hear any approval of this proposal from the Russian side."

On Monday, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov refused to say whether Russia had agreed to such a truce, saying only that “communications continue.”
