CENTCOM: There is no truth to the Revolutionary Guard's claims that the Strait of Hormuz is closed or under control

The U.S. Central Command denied on Thursday what it described as claims made by a general in the Iranian Revolutionary Guard who said earlier today, through media reports, that "the Strait of Hormuz is closed" and that his country has "full control over it."

It described this claim as incorrect.

CENTCOM stated in a post on X that maritime traffic is currently ongoing through the Strait of Hormuz, where commercial goods and energy supplies, including 20 million barrels of crude oil, are being transported.

It added that the United States and its regional partners clearly govern control over the strait.

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated earlier that the amounts of oil passing through the Strait of Hormuz are approaching pre-war levels.

Rubio stated during a visit to Athens, "The amounts of oil currently flowing are almost equivalent to those transported before the start of this conflict, and thus, they have lost complete control" over the vital strait for fuel exports from the Gulf.

He added that the Iranian economy is experiencing a total and complete free fall, according to the French Press Agency.

He said, "The Iranian economy, as a result of the crippling sanctions, is on the verge of reaching a state that has only been seen in a few countries in the world."

Rubio added, "Iran cannot possess a nuclear weapon."

The U.S. Secretary of State emphasized that any agreement they agree to and that is acceptable to the United States must ensure that Iran never possesses nuclear weapons.
