Syria: Foiling of a 'Destructive Plot' by a Cell Linked to Hezbollah in Daraa

- The Syrian authorities thwarted a "destructive plot" in the Yarmouk Basin area of Daraa province in southern Syria, accusing a cell they said was affiliated with the Lebanese Hezbollah of being involved. The official Syrian news channel, Al-Ikhbariya, reported on Tuesday that this occurred as part of a "preemptive security operation" in cooperation with the General Intelligence Directorate.

Al-Ikhbariya reported that the authorities arrested "a cell affiliated with Hezbollah militia consisting of 3 individuals: (F.K), (Z.M), and (L.A)." It noted that "the operation came after careful monitoring of the cell's attempt to prepare launch platforms for missiles with the aim of carrying out attacks to destabilize security and stability, and the platforms were completely dismantled while investigations with the detainees continue in preparation for referring them to the competent judiciary to receive their just punishment."

Since the overthrow of Bashar al-Assad's regime, Hezbollah has repeatedly denied involvement in military movements inside Syria.
