Today, Tuesday, the Syrian Ministry of Economy, the Italian Embassy in Damascus, the International Labor Organization, and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization held a meeting to discuss ways to develop the textile sector in Syria, the challenges it faces, and solutions and proposals to support it within the framework of the “Weaving Hope” project at the headquarters of the Italian Embassy in Damascus.
The meeting focused on mobilizing the necessary funding to fill the financing gap in the total budget of the project, estimated at approximately 5 million euros, of which the Italian government provided approximately 1.7 million euros, while the International Labor Organization contributed approximately 700,000 euros from its own resources.
The meeting also discussed the sector’s priorities and needs, enhancing dialogue between government agencies, chambers of industry, vocational training institutions, and international partners, in addition to examining the results achieved by the project in the areas of skills development, industrial education, providing decent work and employment opportunities, and determining the next steps to transform interest in the project into technical or financial contributions, according to the Syrian News Agency, SANA.
Representatives of the Damascus and Aleppo Chambers of Industry participated in the meeting, along with development partners from the European Union and the Aga Khan Foundation, and representatives of the International Labor Organization and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization.
