Egypt entered the region of severe weather fluctuations with the beginning of the fall season, as rainy thunderclouds accompanied by lightning and thunder struck various areas of the country, amid intense official warnings of the danger of torrential rains in Sinai and the Red Sea and Upper Egypt mountain ranges.

On Saturday, the Meteorological Authority warned of winds blowing sand and dust as a result of the country being affected by the extension of the “Sudan seasonal depression,” calling on citizens to be cautious and follow developments in the weather condition.

Dr. Manar Ghanem, a member of the media center at the General Meteorological Authority, told Al Arabiya.net/Al-Hadath.net that areas of central and southern Upper Egypt and central and southern Sinai have begun to be affected by the extension of the Red Sea depression, or what is known as the Sudan seasonal depression, which helps in the availability of quantities of humidity, in conjunction with rising temperatures and the presence of a depression in the upper layers of the atmosphere.

She also explained that these factors contribute to creating opportunities for rain of varying intensity in some areas, with the possibility of torrents forming, especially in areas of the Red Sea Governorate, noting that the chances of rain will continue until today, Saturday.

She added that rain may be accompanied by lightning and thunder, warning citizens against standing on balconies to photograph these weather phenomena, and the need to stay away from pools of water, close windows, and stay away from trees and high places, in order to preserve their safety.

For his part, Professor of Climate at Zagazig University, Dr. Ali Qutb, told Al Arabiya.net/Al-Hadath.net that the state of instability in weather conditions that some areas in Egypt are witnessing during the current hours comes as a result of the Red Sea regions and their extensions within Egyptian territory being affected by a cloud mass coming from the tropical regions, in conjunction with high humidity levels over the Red Sea and high water surface temperatures, which are factors that help in the formation and development of clouds, especially cumulus thunderclouds.

While Qutb explained that these types of clouds can extend from areas of water bodies to coastal and inland areas, including areas of Upper Egypt, and lead to rain of varying intensity, which may be heavy in some areas according to the nature of the clouds, their movement, and the extent of their continued impact, which requires monitoring developments in the weather condition during the coming period.

He added that the fall season is one of the seasons that witness rapid weather fluctuations, as a result of changes in air masses and the interference of factors affecting the weather, noting that this leads to the emergence of cases of instability in a number of governorates, especially the governorates of South Upper Egypt, the Red Sea, and South Sinai.

In addition, the professor of climate at Zagazig University pointed out that the nature of these weather conditions requires attention to the rapid changes that may occur in the intensity of rain and the areas where it falls, especially in mountainous areas and valleys where rainwater may accumulate, which increases the possibility of floods forming in some of the most affected areas.

Qutb stressed the need to adhere to the instructions and warnings of the General Meteorological Authority, and to follow weather forecasts continuously to identify the areas expected to be affected by rain, stressing the importance of taking the necessary precautions, especially in areas exposed to water accumulation or torrent flow, while being careful while driving and staying away from valley streams and areas where rain collects.
