Despite the exchange of threats between Washington and Tehran, the Iranian Foreign Ministry confirmed that it recently received a new American proposal.
The spokesperson for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, Ismail Baqaei, stated today, Sunday, that his country has already responded to the American proposal.
He also pointed out that "the proposal is similar to previous proposals and focuses on the nuclear file, while Tehran wishes to focus on the Strait of Hormuz." He said: "Tehran wants to focus on the Strait of Hormuz, not on the nuclear file." He noted that there are additional points that still need to be communicated to the American side.
Additionally, Baqaei confirmed that "the issue of the return of International Atomic Energy Agency inspectors was not discussed," according to what was reported by Reuters.
Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf clarified earlier today that the Strait of Hormuz will not be reopened unless the seven Iranian conditions outlined in the interim agreement with the United States in June are met, following days after Tehran received Washington's response to its diplomatic proposal. Qalibaf stated, "The Americans, who say something different in the media, have recently made proposals through a mediator. But they must realize that the phase of procrastination and imposing unilateral demands is over."
