- Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said on Thursday that Iran had received a response from the United States to the Islamic Republic’s proposal, and that it would submit its response “within the next few days,” according to what was reported by the semi-official Iranian Tasnim News Agency. Araqchi added: “We are currently reviewing the positions of the American side, and I believe that we will present our response within the next few days,” noting that the negotiations taking place through mediators with the United States are still continuing.
Last month, the semi-official Iranian Fars News Agency quoted Fatima Mohajerani, the government spokeswoman, as saying that Araqchi had received the United States’ response to the Qatari mediator’s proposal. Araqchi had met with Qatari mediators in New York during the previous week.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ismail Baghaei said last Sunday that Iran had delivered “clear responses to the American proposals through the Qatari mediator in Doha,” rejecting what Tehran described as an attempt by Washington to direct the talks towards the nuclear file. Iran also reiterated that its country will not give up its conditions for reopening the Strait of Hormuz, in the absence of any indications of settling the diplomatic dispute with the United States.
