Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, affirmed the European Union's full solidarity with Saudi Arabia following the attack on an airport in Riyadh. The senior European official wrote in a post on her VX account today, Friday: “We fully stand in solidarity with the people of Saudi Arabia and our partners in the Gulf.”
I also offered my sincere condolences to the families of the three victims who died in the attack on King Khalid International Airport in the capital, Riyadh. She said: "We stand in full solidarity with the people of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and all our partners in the Gulf."
In addition, she stressed that "targeting civilian infrastructure is unacceptable." She concluded by noting that "Iran's agents must stop their reckless and violent actions."
The Saudi Civil Aviation Authority announced earlier today that King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh was subjected to two attacks yesterday, Thursday, which resulted in the killing of 3 Saudi citizens and the injury of others of different nationalities.
It also indicated that the first attack targeted airport facilities, while the second targeted a Saudi Airlines plane.
In turn, Saudi Airlines said that the attack resulted in the death of one of its employees and damage to a plane that was on the ground, adding that there were no passengers on board the plane at the time.
While the Coalition to Support Legitimacy in Yemen confirmed that Houthi attacks targeting civilians and civilian objects will be met with a firm response.
For weeks, Houthi attempts to carry out attacks on residential areas and civilian facilities inside Saudi Arabia escalated, while air defenses confronted them, with the continued confrontations in Yemen between the Yemeni armed forces and the Houthi militias, in light of the escalation of the broader conflict in the region between Iran and America.
