The Egyptian Medicines Authority warned of the extreme danger of meningitis, stressing the need not to underestimate it, given the possibility of its rapid development and the direct threat it poses to public health.
The Authority explained that meningitis is known as a serious infection that affects the membranes surrounding the brain and spinal cord, and may result from a bacterial, viral, or fungal infection, stressing the importance of raising the level of community awareness of the methods of transmission of infection and fully adhering to preventive measures to reduce risks and protect individuals.
The Egyptian Authority has identified 7 main steps to prevent the disease, the first of which is adherence to recommended vaccinations according to age groups and approved medical guidelines, to prevent the strains targeted by vaccines, in addition to paying attention to personal hygiene and washing hands regularly with soap and water, especially before eating and after using the bathroom.
The steps included the necessity of following coughing and sneezing etiquette by covering the mouth and nose, cleaning and disinfecting surfaces periodically, in addition to avoiding contact with infected people and not sharing personal items with others, ensuring the safety of food and water, and avoiding the consumption of unpasteurized milk.
The advice also included taking the necessary measures to avoid mosquito and insect bites, while adopting a healthy lifestyle that includes balanced nutrition, adequate sleep, and physical activity to support the immune system.
The Egyptian Medicines Authority concluded its warning by emphasizing that awareness and vaccination represent the cornerstone of prevention, calling on citizens to seek urgent medical care as soon as any worrying symptoms appear, such as high fever, severe headache, neck stiffness, or disturbance of consciousness.
The authority stressed that early recognition of the signs of the disease and taking the necessary and rapid medical measures are the surest way to protect the individual and those around him from sudden developments of the disease.
