Two Palestinians were killed, one of whom was a volunteer in the civil defense, today Wednesday, following an Israeli airstrike in northern Gaza, according to the civil defense in the sector, coinciding with Israel commemorating the third anniversary of the October 7 attacks that sparked the outbreak of war in Gaza.
Civil defense spokesman Mahmoud Bissal said, "Two citizens were killed, one of whom was the civil defense volunteer Muhammad Tammous," who died after arriving at Al-Shifa Hospital "due to an Israeli airstrike early today near the destroyed Kamal Adwan Hospital" in northern Gaza. He noted that several injured people were transferred following the airstrike.
A security source in Gaza reported artillery shelling and gunfire from Israeli forces that have targeted most of the eastern areas of Khan Younis in the south of the sector, as well as the camps of Deir al-Balah, Al-Bureij, and Al-Maghazi (in the center) and the neighborhoods of Al-Zeitoun, Al-Tuffah, and Al-Shuja'iyya east of Gaza City. He pointed out that the Israeli army "blew up and destroyed several homes in the Al-Zeitoun neighborhood."
Loud explosions were heard on the other side of the border, inside Israel, while relatives of several victims of the October 7 attacks were gathered at dawn at the site of the "Nova" music festival to commemorate more than 300 people who were killed at that site during the attacks.
Despite a year having passed since the ceasefire agreement reached between Hamas and Israel, mediated by Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey, the Israeli army continues its air, naval, and ground strikes on the Gaza Strip almost regularly.
Israeli forces control more than sixty percent of the Gaza Strip's area of 365 square kilometers, which is home to more than two million Palestinians, the majority of whom live in unsuitable tents.
Israeli strikes have resulted in the deaths of more than 1,460 Palestinians since the ceasefire was announced in October 2025, according to the Gaza Ministry of Health, which the United Nations considers its data reliable.
More than 74,200 Palestinians have been killed since the war began three years ago, according to the Ministry of Health's data.
Hamas's attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, resulted in the deaths of more than 1,200 people, according to official Israeli data.
