"Lonely Planet" Reveals the Best Travel Destinations for 2025

Dubai, United Arab Emirates - Lonely Planet has revealed a list of 30 destinations recommended for visit in 2025, along with a new list of the best travel trends. Cities like Bansko in Bulgaria, Osaka in Japan, and Edmonton in Canada stand out among the highly favored destinations included in the list.

Destinations such as Cameroon, Lithuania, and Fiji have been considered the best for lovers of rural nature. Additionally, Cheriki in Panama and Valais in Switzerland have been classified as charming areas that attract tourists.

Nitya Chambers, Senior Vice President of Content and Executive Editor at Lonely Planet, stated that the French city of Toulouse topped the list this year, explaining that this French city is considered an ideal destination for a weekend getaway. Chambers noted that this city is a perfect addition to a travel itinerary around France.

She pointed out that the Indian city of Puducherry (formerly known as Pondicherry) is also considered an ideal addition, due to the ease of train travel from the more famous tourist destination of Chennai. Chambers highlighted that Puducherry is reimagining itself as a 'major destination for sand and waves, with a large-scale project to restore beaches that have eroded into the sea.'

Traveling by train is one of the prominent travel trends identified by Lonely Planet in the 15th edition of its best-selling book 'Best in Travel.' Local flavors and outdoor adventures align with the travel trends highlighted by Lonely Planet, as the city of Chiang Mai in northern Thailand features local food flavors.

Chambers commented, saying, "Whether you are a seasoned food traveler or just a curious and enthusiastic taster, you will experience a fresh, new, and exciting culinary scene there." Vanuatu is not the first name that comes to mind when travelers think of the Pacific Islands, but Chambers noted that "the raw nature is the real key to its appeal."

The archipelago has a national sustainable development plan that prioritizes nature protection. Travelers can dive among shipwrecks and watch lava flowing from active volcanic craters.

In England, the East Anglia region does not receive much attention even from local tourists, but Chambers saw that it offers "a typical cuisine of old England, with unexpected villages and artistic towns, against a coastline dotted with beaches and bird reserves." Extreme birdwatching during travel ranks fourth on the list of travel trends in "Lonely Planet."

Chambers explained that "during the COVID-19 pandemic, people picked up hobbies like birdwatching and hiking." The less-visited areas revealed that the coastal cities of Giresun and Ordu in northern Turkey are considered "a gateway to the coast and mountains" in the less-visited Black Sea region.
