"Lonely Planet" Reveals the Best Travel Destinations for 2027

- Don't put your swimwear aside just yet, as a new travel season is on the horizon, with "Lonely Planet" releasing its list of 50 destinations and experiences to inspire your adventures for 2027. "Lonely Planet," which has 53 years of experience in publishing travel guides, launched the "Lonely Planet" app earlier this year, allowing explorers for the first time to adopt a triadic approach to planning their trips, combining the use of the app, the company's booking platform "Journeys," and its best-selling books.

Nitya Chambers, the executive editor and senior vice president of content at "Lonely Planet," says: "We are on track to reach 100,000 downloads in just five months. We have also created exclusive content in the app about the destinations listed in the best travel list."

The "Best in Travel 2027" list, available online and in a commemorative book, was selected by the global "Lonely Planet" community of travel experts. Chambers adds: "What excites us is that we are not recommending just one type of trip; the real goal is to find the experience that meets the traveler's aspirations and what they are looking for in their journey right now."

Amazing experiences include the coastal "Redwoods" in California, which is one of Chambers' favorite destinations on the 2027 list, describing it as: "They are the tallest trees on Earth, and they are centuries old." The city of Newport in Rhode Island offers a different kind of immersive experience, where visitors can volunteer to work as lighthouse keepers, participating in daily tasks and general maintenance.

The list of selected European cities includes the German city of Dessau, home to the revolutionary "Bauhaus" movement in architecture and design, as well as the historic cities of Verona and Padua in the Italian region of Veneto, which often do not receive the attention they deserve. Chambers confirms: "The list is designed to offer a variety of experiences, some of which are accessible and practical for a weekend, while others are so stunning that they make you feel like you are in another world."

The experience of diving in the frozen waters of Antarctica is considered "one of the most prominent experiences that many dream of accomplishing during their lifetime." Taking on new challenges, the "Monteverde" cloud forest in Costa Rica offers another experience capable of changing visitors' perspectives, providing a "completely different viewpoint" to observe our planet, according to Chambers.

Wildlife experiences include a safari trip in the "Gombe" National Park in Tanzania. The site gained its fame thanks to the late scientist Jane Goodall, who began her pioneering work studying chimpanzees there in 1960.

The "Tsavo East" and "Tsavo West" National Parks in Kenya also stand out in the list of selected destinations for 2027. Travelers await adventures in the Pacific Islands, specifically in New Caledonia, famous for its coastal lagoons listed as UNESCO World Heritage sites, and in Samoa as well, where the traditional "Faʻa Sāmoa" culture is one of the recommended experiences for the coming year.

The Chinese city of Chengdu is known for its giant panda breeding research base, but it is also a prominent destination for culinary enthusiasts, while the Kazakh capital Astana receives special praise for its stunning architecture.
