What history has not documented... Pictures showing the facts of life during World War I

Dubai, United Arab Emirates - On November 11, 1918, the Germans and the Allied nations reached an armistice, officially ending World War I. Things in Greater Britain, as elsewhere, seemed to be improving, as eruptions of joy erupted across the island, and the "Roaring Twenties" soon followed, famous for its extravagance and extravagance parties.

However, although the country was in dire need of new beginnings, there is no doubt that the cost of victory was very high at the time. During the war, Britons experienced severe emotional, physical and economic devastation, as victory celebrations were mixed with public gatherings of citizens to mourn their dead, as well as their struggle to understand and accept their new reality.

This forgotten period is currently being explored at the Imperial War Museum in London, through an exhibition of more than 130 rare black and white photographs, various historical documents and objects, called “Renewal: Life after the First World War in Photographs.” The exhibition highlights the mixed feelings and state of confusion that Britain experienced during the post-war period.

Get to know these images on a journey into a previously unknown past, in the photo gallery above.
