The new White House spokeswoman, Katie Zachariah, whose career raises many questions, indirectly acknowledged Thursday that she did not pass the bar exam, stressing her right to identify herself as a lawyer.

Zachariah, newly appointed to the position of White House spokesman, who is at the heart of media coverage of the US administration, presents herself as a lawyer, especially on social media and the Fox News channel, where she works as a consultant.

However, there is no evidence that the new 41-year-old White House spokeswoman passed the bar exam in the United States, after obtaining a law degree from Pepperdine University in California.

In response to a question from the conservative media outlet, Real Americas Voice, she said that she had registered to take the union exam, but was later distracted by preparations to move to live in China with her partner.

She stated, "We said: Let's take our time. I will take the exam and see the results. The results are not really important because I knew that I did not need the union in China. We left shortly after that."

Zachariah moved to live in China, where she worked as a legal expert in a well-known Chinese law firm.

She indicated that she did not take the union exam again after her return to the United States due to the birth of her first child.

Zachariah denounced "media misinformation" and "misunderstanding," stressing that "many people in the sector" told her that she could introduce herself as a lawyer, given her law degree and experience in international business laws that she acquired in China.

She stressed, "I was very careful in my approach."

On Wednesday, an American oversight group submitted a complaint to the California State Bar Association, demanding an investigation into whether President Donald Trump’s spokeswoman violated the law by presenting herself as a lawyer, even though she does not have a license to practice the profession.

The Campaign for Accountability organization stated in its statement that “identifying oneself as a lawyer without a license to practice in California is not just arrogance, but rather a crime.”

This controversy came after Zachariah's stumbling first appearance as White House spokeswoman on Tuesday, when she read at length from prepared remarks during a briefing that lasted only 14 minutes.

She contented herself with receiving questions from three news organizations, all of which were considered supportive of the US administration, and stumbled in providing some answers, as on one occasion she mistakenly referred to her husband as the president.

Katie Zachariah succeeded Caroline Leavitt, who left her position in August to care for her two children.

On the other hand, Zachariah said Thursday in an interview with far-right influencer Jack Posobiec that China lacks "actual toilets."

She pointed out that the prevailing impression in 2016 was that China would overtake the United States.

She said, "I remember it well. I had just returned from China and I thought to myself: How will China be the next country to shine? They don't even have actual toilets."
