Gulf Cooperation Council: We Stand with Saudi Arabia in All Measures to Protect Its Security

Jassim Mohammed Al-Budaiwi, the Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council, affirmed that the member states stand united with Saudi Arabia, fully supporting all measures it takes to protect its security, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.

He also called in a statement today, Saturday, for the "international community to take a firm stance to put an end to the repeated Houthi terrorist attacks and hold the perpetrators accountable for their actions."

He expressed his strong condemnation of the Houthi attacks with ballistic missiles and drones that targeted the cities of Riyadh and Khamis Mushait in Saudi Arabia. He emphasized that this dangerous escalation represents a blatant violation of the Kingdom's sovereignty and a direct threat to the safety and security of civilians and the stability of the region.

This came after the Coalition to Support Legitimacy in Yemen announced late Friday/Saturday that it had intercepted and destroyed two drones launched by Houthi militias towards the Riyadh area, as well as two ballistic missiles fired by the Houthis towards Khamis Mushait.

This position also followed hours after the United Nations Security Council condemned in the strongest terms the continued Houthi attacks against the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, demanding the group to cease military escalation and attacks targeting civilians and civilian facilities.

Riyadh witnessed an urgent meeting yesterday of the chiefs of staff of the countries party to the Mecca Agreement for Joint Defense (Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, and Turkey). The defense leaders reviewed the security situation and the threats facing the Kingdom.

The participants strongly reaffirmed their commitment to collective defense, reflecting the determination of the three countries to defend Saudi Arabia's security, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.

The Saudi Ministry of Defense indicated that the meeting confirmed the mutual determination to immediately begin translating the commitments outlined in the Mecca Agreement for Joint Defense into effective military cooperation.
