From Canada to Egypt?!

It was at the beginning of the millennium when I went to the Canadian capital "Ottawa" on one of the days in 2003, where it was cold and snowy; participating in a seminar under the auspices of Canadian Prime Minister "Paul Martin" who wanted to hear from experts and researchers their opinions on what he had proposed when he was Minister of Finance about the role of the Group of Twenty (G20) that was established in 1989 in achieving stability in international markets through the central banks of the pivotal countries in the world. At that time, I prepared a research paper on the importance of Egypt's participation, and I believe it was published in the "Strategic Papers" at the Al-Ahram Center for Political and Strategic Studies. The purpose of the gathering was to become a global organization attended by presidents and politicians to prevent the explosion of the global economy. The man attended dinner to give a speech about the importance of his proposals; and he said that he could not believe that Egypt, with its historical civilization and its role in stabilizing a difficult region, was far from the gathering. When dinner ended and we stood to greet the man and say goodbye, he repeated the same statement to me, confirming that he would do everything in his power to make Egypt a part of the group.

It was clear that the Egyptian economic situation did not qualify it to join this gathering despite the qualifications that Egyptian diplomacy was presenting to achieve this goal. Now, the goal can only be achieved if the gross domestic product exceeds one trillion dollars; but achieving this goal would not be possible unless there was a political decision that Egypt must roll up its sleeves and do what other countries have done through hard work and effort to reach this rank. What actually happened is that despite the Egyptian state achieving growth rates that were the highest since the rates that occurred since President Sadat's "open-door economic policy." At that time, the result was the revolution and then the Brotherhood until the "Egypt Vision 2030" was presented, which proposed that Egypt be among the top thirty countries globally.
