A new Palestinian literary achievement... A Sigh of Freedom” by Rula Ghanem reaches the international reader in English

Doha - Ofoq News - In a new achievement for the Palestinian novel, the English translation of the novel “A Sigh of Freedom” by the Palestinian novelist Dr. Rula Khaled Ghanem was published by the General Foundation for the Cultural Village “Katara” in the State of Qatar, after the novel won the Katara Prize for Arabic Fiction for the year 2025, in the category of published novels.

Translating the novel into the English language constitutes an important step in communicating the Palestinian story to a wider audience, and enhancing the presence of Palestinian literature in the global cultural scene, with the human experiences, national memory, and testimonies it carries about the reality of the Palestinian people.

The novel deals with the issues of Palestinian asylum, the suffering of prisoners, and the concerns of women and the family, in a literary narrative that combines social and humanitarian dimensions, and gives Palestinian characters a space to express pain, steadfastness, and aspiration for freedom and life.

This achievement comes as confirmation of the ability of the Palestinian novel to transcend geographical and linguistic borders, and to carry the voice of the Palestinian person to libraries and global cultural spaces, so that the word remains a tool for preserving national memory and introducing the Palestinian cause through literature and creativity.

The translation of “Freedom’s Sigh” into English is an important milestone in the journey of the novel, which has received Arab literary appreciation, and opens broader horizons for it to reach readers, researchers, and those interested in Palestinian literature around the world.
