Sofia - Ofoq News - Slavcho Velkov officially announced his candidacy for the position of Vice President of the Republic of Bulgaria, on the electoral list numbered (21), in the presidential elections scheduled for October 25 of this year.

The candidacy of Velkov, a retired colonel and expert in national security and Middle East issues, comes after a career that combined academic and military work with diplomatic and popular activity, with a focus on supporting the rights of the Palestinian people and defending the justice of their cause in political and media forums.

Velkov was one of the founders of the Bulgarian-Palestinian Friendship Association, and served as its president for many years. He also chaired the parliamentary friendship group between Bulgaria and Palestine in the Bulgarian Parliament, and worked to strengthen diplomatic communication and cultural and popular ties between the two sides.

Velkov worked as a lecturer at a number of Bulgarian universities and the Diplomatic Institute of the Bulgarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He also lectured at Palestinian universities, including Al-Istiqlal University.

Velkov appeared in the Bulgarian and Arab media, addressing Middle East issues and the rights of the Palestinian people, and affirming their right to establish their independent Palestinian state.

According to the information received, Velkov enjoys the appreciation of the Palestinian leadership and President Mahmoud Abbas, due to his positions in support of the Palestinian people and his efforts to strengthen friendly relations between Bulgaria and Palestine. He was also granted a Palestinian passport in appreciation of his role in this field.

Velkov is running in the elections based on a vision that focuses on strengthening Bulgarian national security and adopting a balanced foreign policy based on building bridges with the Arab world, especially Palestine.

The Bulgarian presidential elections are scheduled to be held on October 25, with the participation of 22 candidates competing for the positions of president and vice president.
