After the negotiations stalled.. Rubio demanded the Iranian delegation to leave America

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Monday demanded that the Iranian delegation participating in the United Nations General Assembly leave the United States immediately, following a stalemate in negotiations between Washington and Tehran, according to an American official and another source familiar with the matter who spoke to Axios on Wednesday.

The American official stated that Rubio requested the Iranian delegation to leave after they "exhausted the purpose of their stay," adding that the United Nations General Assembly had concluded, "and it is time for them to go."

This came at a time when Qatari mediators were attempting to achieve a diplomatic breakthrough between the United States and Iran, but they only made limited progress, as both sides remained steadfast in their positions and refused to make concessions.

Although the United Nations General Assembly had concluded, Rubio's request was considered an unusual diplomatic rebuke, highlighting the level of distrust between Washington and Tehran amid efforts to reach an agreement to end the war.

Among those included in the U.S. request was Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi.

According to sources, the White House believed on Monday morning that there was a chance to make progress in talks with Iran that same day, but by evening it became clear that negotiations had reached a dead end.

Following that, Rubio instructed the U.S. mission to the United Nations to inform the Iranian mission that Araqchi's delegation was required to leave New York immediately, according to the U.S. official.

Members of the Iranian delegation, including Araqchi, left for the airport a few hours later and boarded a flight from New York to Doha at 1:20 AM on Tuesday.

A second source also confirmed that the U.S. demanded the Iranian delegation leave, indicating that Araqchi's return to Tehran was scheduled for Monday evening.

In parallel, regional sources reported that Qatari mediators are continuing their communications with both sides regarding a proposed compromise aimed at narrowing the gap of disagreements between Washington and Tehran and advancing the negotiations.

In statements made to reporters on Wednesday, U.S. President Donald Trump, in response to a question about how to reach an agreement with a regime he describes as "crazy," said: "Maybe I'll bomb them, and maybe I will actually do it. We have to make that decision. Either we bomb them or we reach an agreement. But time is running out, and the matter will be resolved very soon one way or another."
