Al-Alimi calls for international action against the Houthis similar to confronting ISIS and Al-Qaeda

The head of the Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council, Rashad Al-Alimi, called on Wednesday for a unified international position against the Houthi militia, similar to the global movement to confront ISIS, Al-Qaeda, and the Boko Haram group, following a series of attacks targeting civilian airports and residential areas in the south and east of the country.

Al-Alimi said, during separate meetings in Riyadh with ambassadors from eight countries to receive their credentials, that targeting airports and civilians and depriving the population of basic needs requires firm international measures, including classifying the Houthis as a terrorist organization, drying up their sources of funding, and preventing weapons and military technologies from reaching them, according to the official Yemeni News Agency.

The head of the Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council accused the Houthi militia of targeting Aden and Al-Rayyan airports, and continuing attacks on the city of Taiz and residential areas in Marib and other governorates, warning of the repercussions of these attacks on civilians, infrastructure, and the humanitarian situation.

He considered that the international community possesses sufficient evidence of the Houthi violations, but has not yet taken measures commensurate with their seriousness, calling for the implementation of Security Council resolutions and limiting the group's ability to threaten the security of the region and international navigation.

In this context, Al-Alimi urged the countries participating in the maritime alliances to support the Yemeni government to regain control over the ports and coasts, especially in Hodeidah, considering that addressing maritime threats requires dealing with their land sources, attack launch sites, and weapons smuggling.

He reaffirmed the continuation of Operation "Yemen Dawn", which is being implemented by government forces with the support of the Saudi-led coalition, until state institutions are restored and its authority is extended over the entire Yemeni territory.

Al-Alimi's meetings with the ambassadors dealt with ways to enhance political, economic, security and humanitarian cooperation, and included representatives of the Czech Republic, the Philippines, Spain, Nigeria, South Korea, France, Denmark and Cuba.
