Bratislava - Ofoq News - As part of the ongoing efforts to strengthen the Palestinian presence on the international scene, and under the auspices of the active Palestinian diplomatic presence in Europe, the Palestinian Folklore Diaspora Band participated in the activities of Folklore Day for Asian countries, which were held on Sunday in the Slovakian capital, Bratislava, at the kind invitation of Her Excellency the Ambassador of the State of Palestine to the Slovak Republic, Mrs. Safaa Al-Khalidi, and in the presence of Brother Raafat Abu Madi, Secretary of the Fatah Movement’s territory in Austria.
This participation comes in the context of the efforts made by Palestinian diplomacy to enhance Palestine’s cultural and national presence in international forums, expand the horizons of communication with peoples and countries, and highlight the Palestinian national identity and its ancient heritage, which contributes to conveying the Palestinian narrative to the world through culture, art and civilizational dialogue.
The invitation of Her Excellency Ambassador Safaa Al-Khalidi to the Diaspora Band was an important opportunity to highlight the richness of Palestinian folk heritage and introduce its authenticity to the participating peoples. It also reflected the importance of the role played by Palestinian diplomatic missions in embracing cultural initiatives and opening the way for Palestinian institutions and artistic groups to participate in international events, thus enhancing the cultural and civilizational image of Palestine and confirming its presence on the global stage.
The Palestinian folklore group Shatat presented heritage performances that embodied the authenticity of the Palestinian popular heritage, through dabke and folklore, in a scene that expressed the connection of the Palestinian people to their land, history, and national identity, and highlighted what this heritage carries of the values of belonging, steadfastness, and adherence to roots passed down through generations.
This participation confirmed that the Palestinian people have a clear imprint on the global cultural scene, and that their heritage is not just an artistic heritage, but rather an integral part of their national identity and historical memory, and a humanitarian message that conveys the story of Palestine to the peoples of the earth. The performances also carried a message confirming that the roots of the Palestinian people are firmly rooted in their land, and that the attempts of uprooting and displacement, and the killing and destruction resulting from the Israeli war and settler attacks, will not be able to erase the Palestinian identity or obliterate its cultural and civilizational features.
This event highlights the importance of Palestinian cultural diplomacy as one of the effective paths in strengthening the national presence internationally, as the role of diplomacy is not limited to official representation and conveying political positions, but extends to include building bridges of human and cultural communication, introducing different communities to the history and heritage of Palestine, and strengthening relations with cultural institutions and events in the host countries.
In this context, the importance of the role played by Her Excellency Ambassador Safaa Al-Khalidi is highlighted in providing spaces for the Palestinian cultural presence in Slovakia, by supporting the participation of Palestinian artistic groups in international events, which allows the public to get to know Palestinian culture closely, and confirms that Palestine is present with its identity, heritage, and the creativity of its people, and that culture constitutes a common language capable of transcending borders and reaching the consciences of peoples.
For his part, Brother Raafat Abu Madi, Secretary of the Fatah Movement’s region in Austria, stressed the importance of supporting Palestinian cultural initiatives and activities in Europe, because of the role they play in preserving national identity and enhancing the presence of the Palestinian community and its institutions in international forums. He stressed the need to continue participating in cultural events that allow presenting the Palestinian heritage and introducing it to various peoples, in a way that contributes to strengthening the Palestinian presence and highlighting the justice of its cause and the depth of its civilizational affiliation.
On this occasion, the director of the Shatat Palestinian Folklore Band, Brother Wissam Rafi, on behalf of all members of the band, thanked and appreciated His Excellency Ambassador Safaa Al-Khalidi for her kind invitation and giving the band the opportunity to participate in the activities of the Asian Countries Folklore Day in Bratislava, stressing the band’s pride in representing Palestine and its popular heritage, and its keenness to continue performing its artistic and national message in various international forums.
Brother Fouad Maouad, leader of the band, also expressed his pride in this initiative, which allowed the Shatat band to present part of the authentic Palestinian folk heritage and introduce the Palestinian cultural identity to the participating peoples, stressing the importance of continuing such initiatives in supporting Palestinian culture and enhancing its presence in international forums.
Brother Fouad Muwad appreciated the role of Palestinian diplomacy in supporting the national cultural presence, noting that the band’s participation represents a message of belonging and steadfastness, and embodies the Palestinian people’s keenness to protect their heritage and pass it on to future generations, despite the challenges and attempts to erase their identity. He also stressed that Palestinian art, folklore, and Dabke are cultural and humanitarian tools that contribute to conveying the voice of Palestine to the world, and informing people of the authenticity of its history and the depth of its people’s connection to their land.
This participation confirms the importance of integration between diplomatic work and cultural activity in enhancing Palestine’s international presence, as the initiatives embraced by diplomatic missions contribute to opening new horizons for Palestinian artists and institutions, enhancing communication with peoples, and presenting a vivid image of Palestinian identity away from stereotypes, through heritage, art, and creativity.
Palestinian folklore is not just an artistic performance, but rather a vibrant national memory that carries the story of the land and the human being, and stores a history of belonging and steadfastness. The Palestinian Dabke, popular song, and traditional costumes will remain living evidence of the authenticity of the Palestinian people and their adherence to their national identity, and cultural messages that transcend borders to confirm that Palestine is present in the conscience of its people and in the global cultural scene.
The participation of the Shatat band in the Folklore Day of Asian countries reaffirms that Palestinian culture is an essential pillar of the national and diplomatic presence, and that art will remain a bridge of communication between Palestine and the world, and a means of protecting national memory and conveying the message of the Palestinian people to various peoples, with its adherence to land, identity, freedom and dignity.
