- US Ambassador to the United Nations Mike Waltz said on Sunday that he would not set a time frame for the end of the war with Iran, but he indicated that time is in the interest of President Donald Trump. Waltz told Ofoq News Network, in an interview with Dana Bash on the “State of the Union” program: “I will not necessarily set a time frame for that, but I think the president is focusing on his clear goals, which are that Iran will never possess a nuclear weapon, and that the door is open for it to return to the negotiating table when it is ready to negotiate in good faith, and in the meantime the “maximum pressure” policy will remain imposed on the regime’s economy.”
Waltz added: “I believe that time, with the President's strategy and Operation Economic Fury, is on the side of the President and the United States. You just heard the Commander of US Central Command, Admiral Bradley Cooper, announce the milestone of escorting more than a billion barrels of oil with our great American Navy, from our allies in the Gulf to global markets, but not a drop of Iranian oil has come out, and we are seeing the results of Operation Economic Pariah, led by Treasury Secretary Scott Besent.”
Waltz also said that the president and the administration are taking the growing escalation in Houthi rebel movements in the region “very seriously,” but he declined to provide details about the nature of the response the administration will take. “What you will see in the UN General Assembly is a lot of discussion about freedom of the seas, the UN law of the sea, freedom of navigation...,” Waltz said.
"We must have free and open trade, and I expect we and our allies to take decisive action."
