With the recent escalation and mutual threats between Washington and Tehran, diplomatic efforts continue to urge for de-escalation, as Pakistan's Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi visits the Iranian capital today, Monday, according to the Iranian Broadcasting and Television Agency.
This visit comes as Iran renewed its warnings earlier today about a potential new U.S. attack on its territory.
The spokesman for the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, Hossein Mohseni, warned that any new attack would push Tehran to change the geography of the war and the type of its weapons, as he put it.
Iranian forces also warned yesterday, Sunday, of an American plan to resume the war and launch attacks on Iranian territory.
The unified combat leadership of the Iranian armed forces stated in a statement that "Tehran has received information indicating that the United States is preparing to resume combat operations." It added that "any American attack will be followed by continuous strikes on American bases and interests."
Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump confirmed yesterday that "something big may happen very soon regarding Iran," noting that he is in the process of making a decision in the very near future.
Trump also hinted at three options before him: the first being "completely wiping out and destroying Iran, or letting it rot economically, or reaching a deal and agreement," as he put it.
However, despite this threat, he indicated that he would be open to the idea of meeting Iranian President Masoud Bezhakian in New York, on the sidelines of the upcoming United Nations General Assembly meetings tomorrow, Tuesday.
It is noteworthy that in recent months, Pakistan has emerged as one of the key mediators between Washington and Tehran amid escalating tensions between them.
In this context, the Pakistani Interior Minister has conducted a series of visits to Tehran since May, the latest of which was in August, during which he met with Iranian officials and discussed efforts to contain tensions and promote diplomatic solutions.
Reports indicate that Naqvi has visited Iran at least four times since the outbreak of the war on February 28.
It is worth noting that the initial agreement signed between Washington and Tehran in June collapsed due to disagreements over several issues, primarily the management of the Strait of Hormuz. Meanwhile, U.S. forces resumed their strikes on some Iranian oil sites and ships.
The U.S. also continued its naval blockade of Iranian ports, imposing more suffocating sanctions.
