London - Afaq News - British police announced today, Thursday, the arrest of a British man of Iranian descent as part of the investigation into a security incident near the RAF Fairford airbase in southwestern England, amid investigations into a possible connection with a foreign entity, including Iran.
The Counter-Terrorism Police stated that the 27-year-old man, who holds both British and Iranian citizenship, was arrested in central London on suspicion of preparing for terrorist acts, while another 26-year-old British man is being questioned.
The arrest follows the detention of five British individuals in their twenties last Sunday near the RAF Fairford base, on suspicion of committing terrorism and explosives-related offenses, before being released on bail while investigations continue.
Police had found a quantity of fuel inside one of the vehicles, but stated that they did not find explosives or a functional explosive device. Authorities are currently exploring several hypotheses, including the possibility of foreign state involvement or individuals acting on their behalf.
The British airbase is used by U.S. forces and has been involved in operations related to the war against Iran. British Prime Minister Andy Burnham stated that authorities have strong indications of possible Iranian involvement, while Tehran denies any connection to the incident.
