Before the Knesset elections, the Israeli government approves urgent military purchases

Tel Aviv - Ofoq News - The Israeli government agreed today in an urgent telephone vote to allocate about one billion shekels for exceptional military purchases, just two weeks before the Knesset elections.

According to the Hebrew websites, these funds are allocated to “urgent defense purchases that cannot be postponed,” in light of the security tensions and fears of additional escalation in the region.

The purchase will be financed from the state budget for 2026 and the budgets for the years 2027-2029, with a portion of the funds allocated from the budgets of the five-year plan for the Arab community.

This exceptional decision, which was taken within the framework of urgent measures ahead of the elections, was justified by “an explanation from competent authorities in the Israeli Ministry of Defense that this issue represents an urgent security necessity that cannot be postponed.” At this stage, no details have been provided about the nature of the purchase or its operational purpose.

In this context, the American website Axios reported last night that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and US President Donald Trump held talks in recent weeks during which they discussed the possibility of launching a joint attack on military and nuclear targets in Iran, even before the elections in Israel and the United States. According to the report, Netanyahu provided Trump with intelligence information indicating Iranian attempts to reactivate its nuclear program.
