Tel Aviv - Ofoq News - Officials in the Israeli security services expressed clear reservations at the political level about launching an attack on Iran at the present time, warning that such a step might be considered political interference in the Israeli elections, according to what the Israeli Broadcasting Authority “Kan” reported on Wednesday evening, citing two sources familiar with the details.
The authority stated that in recent weeks, the Israeli security establishment has raised its level of readiness to carry out a military operation in Iran, including conducting training exercises that were said to have been carried out in the airspace of Iraq.
On the other hand, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu recently repeated his warning messages regarding Iran, claiming that there are indications that Israel's enemies may try to attack it as the elections approach.
However, sources familiar with the details said that the target dates that were set for completing military preparations were still some time away from the actual implementation date, noting that reservations within the security establishment were raised during deliberations on the issue.
Earlier Wednesday, Netanyahu accused Iran of trying to develop nuclear weapons again, and said during the graduation ceremony for an officers’ course at the “Bahd 1” military training base, that Mojtaba Khamenei, the son of former Iranian leader Ali Khamenei, whom he described as “the current tyrannical ruler,” decided to follow in his father’s footsteps, adding that Iran is again trying to develop what he called “death bombs.”
Netanyahu said that he issued instructions to the security establishment to overthrow the Iranian regime, adding: “There is only one way to remove this threat once and for all, and that is to overthrow the regime in Iran, and these are my instructions to the Israeli army, the Mossad, and the security services.”
Netanyahu claimed that Iran seeks to possess weapons that pose a serious threat, considering that Israel faces an existential threat as long as the Iranian regime exists and seeks to arm itself with these weapons.
Netanyahu touched on the position of US President Donald Trump, saying that he also believes that overthrowing the Iranian regime is the only way, adding that Trump said a few days ago that the United States is ready to finish the mission, but it will do so in cooperation with Israel.
Netanyahu added that Israel will continue to target what he described as the "head of the octopus" and cut off its arms, indicating that his government will work to eliminate the Hamas and Hezbollah movements.
Netanyahu said in an interview with the Israeli Broadcasting Corporation last week that he saw the necessity of overthrowing the Iranian regime, but he ruled out the possibility of achieving this before the Israeli elections, saying: “I do not think that is realistic.”
