Egypt.. a “political” message from an account that appeared in the incident of “displaying pornographic clips during the hacking of a billboard.”

- A huge billboard, extending over one of the largest highways in Egypt, was hacked on Thursday, and pornographic clips were broadcast on it, according to what the government and local media reported. The billboard - located on the busy "26th of July Axis" in Cairo - caused a widespread uproar on social media platforms, as many drivers stopped their cars and began using their phones to film what was happening.

Video clips circulating on social media showed phrases written over pornographic scenes, including: “Leaked by: Ch, 19ylegal never and nivex,” in addition to the name of a channel on the Telegram application “@LeakersGov.” On Friday, the aforementioned account posted a message saying: “Egypt is still suffering under the weight of a dictatorship, and the government maintains its power through repression, while the country struggles to move forward. Years pass, but nothing changes, and people’s lives do not improve.”

The Egyptian Ministry of Interior announced that “the screen belongs to an advertising company contracted with an international company,” and the ministry explained that the international company’s website “was subjected to a cyber attack, which led to the broadcast of those unauthorized scenes,” noting that the hack occurred “in several other countries at the same time.” The ministry did not reveal the name of the company, nor did it mention the other countries affected by this hack.

However, local media reports indicated that pornographic scenes were broadcast on electronic billboards in Iraq, Malaysia, and Brazil. The ministry added that "legal measures have been taken" regarding the incident.

Reactions varied on social media. Many expressed their shock, while others saw the incident as ridiculous. On previous occasions, authorities in the region were forced to stop the operation of electronic billboards after being subjected to hacking that led to the display of pornographic material.

Despite attempts by Egyptian courts to block pornographic websites, access to them online is still widespread. In fact, Egypt is on the list of the 20 most visited countries for porn sites in 2025, according to Pornhub Insight data. The United States ranked first.
