- U.S. President Donald Trump said he faces a "big decision" regarding Iran, between striking a major deal with it or "destroying" the Islamic Republic, expressing his belief that the United States could reach an agreement with Tehran after the midterm elections. The U.S. president, in his speech at the United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday, stated: "I have to make a big decision: Will a deal be made with Iran that allows it to rebuild and become a much greater nation than it was before - perhaps becoming one of the greatest countries in the Middle East or even in the world?
Or do I destroy the Islamic Republic quickly, without giving it any chance to kill and destroy peoples and nations again?" He went on to ask: "Do I send them to hell with no chance of survival and no hope of achieving greatness for future generations?" before adding: "But I believe we will reach an agreement right after the elections; it doesn't make sense for them not to do so."
He continued: "They are waiting to see how I perform in the midterm elections. What they do not realize is that I am not a candidate in them; I have been through that experience before and achieved a landslide victory."
Trump stated that "when I took office last year, I began negotiations with Iran and offered them full economic cooperation in exchange for ending their nuclear program and stopping their support for terrorism, but they refused, and that was a grave mistake. They had been bullying in the Middle East, but they are no longer doing that now."
Trump emphasized that he will not allow Iran to possess a nuclear weapon, noting that "Iran's goal is to complete its nuclear bomb while hiding behind this conventional ballistic missile shield. If they succeed, that evil regime would be unleashed to spread terror and death forever."
He added that the Iranians "made a missile capable of hitting Europe, and they were very proud of that. Trump considered that "there is no better example of a danger that has been allowed to strengthen its power - posing a threat to the world - than the number one sponsor of terrorism: the Islamic Republic of Iran."
