Gaza: Emergency plan to evacuate 255 buildings in danger of collapsing

Gaza - Ofoq News - The Government Media Office announced the launch of an urgent emergency plan led by the Ministry of Public Works and Housing and government ministries and institutions, in close cooperation with international and UN institutions working in the Gaza Strip, aiming to remove and evacuate the buildings that are crumbling and on the verge of collapse. This government step comes to end the imminent danger posed by approximately 255 buildings that are now threatened with complete collapse, within the framework of absolute concern to protect the lives of citizens and displaced persons residing in or around them and to provide them with a safe environment.

The relevant ministries issued strict instructions to their departments to immediately begin taking field measures and implement the evacuation plan. The directives included issuing official notifications to owners of dangerous buildings of the need to evacuate immediately, placing warning signs preventing approaching them, and working to provide temporary shelters for affected families.

The government media explained that these operations are being implemented in high-level government coordination that brings together the Ministries of Works, Social Development, and Local Government, in addition to the Civil Defense Service, the Palestinian Police, and other government agencies, with all bodies obligated to submit urgent field reports documenting the inventory and evacuation operations.

At the field level, the relevant government committees continue their tireless efforts to assess the conditions of the buildings and inventory the families residing inside them, as Ministry of Social Development crews recently carried out inspection tours in multiple areas. The committees were able to identify dozens of displaced families, while the crews face some field obstacles represented by the lack of cooperation from those in charge of a number of other buildings, which hinders efforts to identify and protect its residents.

Government agencies sent an urgent appeal to all media outlets, all families, mukhtars, notables, Palestinian tribes, and civil society institutions, on the necessity of community support and awareness for the success of this national effort. The government calls on all citizens to join hands and fully cooperate with field crews and give priority to the public interest, to avoid any humanitarian disasters that will increase the suffering of our people under the current circumstances.
