Iceland to Boycott "Eurovision 2027" Unless Israel is Excluded

Bethlehem - Afaq News - The Board of Directors of the Icelandic National Broadcasting Service (RÚV) announced its support for the country's withdrawal from the Eurovision 2027 competition if Israel is allowed to participate in the contest.

According to the official website of the Irish Broadcasting Service (RÚV), the relevant decision was made during a board meeting on September 30.

Six of the nine board members proposed directing the general director of the agency to notify the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) that Iceland would not participate in the 2027 competition if Israel's participation is not prevented.

The decision also reaffirms the call for the European Broadcasting Union to exclude Israel from the participants in the contest.

It is worth noting that at this stage, it is not about Iceland's unconditional refusal to participate in the Eurovision 2027 competition, but rather about the position of the RÚV Board of Directors regarding Israel's participation - as the final decision regarding the country's participation will depend on other decisions within the framework of the competition.

As a reminder, in 2026, Iceland had already refused to participate in the Eurovision Song Contest amid Israel's participation.

The Eurovision Song Contest for 2027 will be held in the Bulgarian city of Burgas from May 12 to 15.
