Democratic US Representative Ilhan Omar said that federal agents confiscated 17 items during a recent search of her home in Washington, DC, which included several phones, notebooks, and an old camera belonging to her husband. In an interview with MS Now broadcast on Wednesday, Omar described the hours-long inspection process earlier this month as “very strange.”
Omar recounted that she woke up at around six o'clock in the morning on October 12 to a loud knock on the front and back doors of her house. She said: "I thought a fire had broken out, or that something bad had happened to the neighbors. It seemed like an emergency that required an urgent evacuation." The Ofoq News network had previously reported that the inspection came as part of an investigation into immigration fraud, focusing on whether Ilhan Omar’s father had provided false information about her age when she obtained US citizenship in 2000.
For her part, Omar sought to refute the basis of this investigation, confirming that she legally obtained American citizenship in 2000, after fleeing Somalia in 1995. Omar confirmed in the same interview: “I am taking this matter very seriously, and I am certain that my lawyers are taking it very seriously as well.”
